Whoever you are: step out in the evening from your room where all is known to you; your house is just this side of great distances: whoever you are. --Rainer Maria Rilke

Today was one of those days when you get in the car and open the sunroof and put down the windows and just drive, glad to be skipping the gym. It’s a day to throw in the cd that makes you smile most, turn the volume up and let in the sun and wind as you drive down the highway. A day that reminds you of lines from your favorite poems, “let the soft animal of your body love what it loves”, and words from songs about night-swimming that remind you of summers when you were younger and crazier.
An afternoon that makes you wonder how to express the feelings of freedom and wanderlust that it brings to the surface, belying the trappings of an everyday life—a cluttered desk, accruing vacation time, dinners to be made.
I am longing for far-off friends and car trips down the coast, red blossoming flowers on both sides streaming and of course, the anticipation of a new adventure. I remember a dream where I find myself walking in the water to Perth, so entranced by my last visit that I cannot imagine not going back.
I am held captive by memories of the Southern ocean, kismet, dreams and changes yet to be realized…
